A little reading time can go a long way to making you a much more effective photographer. It’s amazing to me how quickly we will part with all kinds of cash for the latest gear but refuse to even crack the cover of the manual that comes with it. OK, go get your camera manual & camera right now. Find a nice comfortable spot to sit and start reading. Take your time and try the different setting adjustments mentioned (that’s why I said get your camera too). When you’re done, that means you’ve read the entire manual cover to cover, put it in your camera bag. There are a number of settings and features that you just won’t use every time you have your camera out, so having the manual with you in your camera bag can really save the day. Why are you still reading this? Stop reading right now! Go get your manual and camera. I said, DO NOT READ THIS ANY FURTHER!
Apparently, you don’t take direction well and you’re going to keep reading anyway so I might as well just keep going. If you really want to be more effective with your camera and ultimately take better pictures than I can think of no better investment than the time to read and understand your manual. Generally, it will introduce you to your camera and it’s features while at the same time giving you occasional tips and exposing you to larger photographic concepts. Bottom-line, it’s a great place to start for the beginner, an excellent window into more advanced features for the novice and an invaluable reference to those seldom used settings for the professional.
Now seriously go get your manual, read it and put it in your camera bag!

Well, I read the whole thing…the article that is…and I’ve had my manual in my camera bag since you first told me to do it. I’m surprised at the number of times I’ve referred to it.
I always keep it in my big bag. There have been a few times over the years where an odd error message or some obscure setting needed to be changed and I would have been up a creek without it!
Very nice site!
